Why Massage Oil?
Who doesn’t like a massage? They’re relaxing, therapeutic, and quite the indulgence. You may be able to justify that indulgence though, as the nourishing and restorative benefits of massage are numerous. That’s why 4 Corners Cannabis decided to add CBD Massage Oil to our array of topical products.
While applying topicals can provide relief, working them into the skin while massaging has been shown to significantly increase their benefit. The gentle friction of therapeutic massage actually helps to express openings in dermal tissues, allowing release for overactive nerve endings. Because of this, massage doesn’t just relax our muscles, but it facilitates several different functions simultaneously. In their article Benefits of Massage Oil, dermascope.com unpacks some of these restorative benefits for us. They inform us of the following:
- Massage improves circulatory function, not only in the bloodstream but also the lymphatic system. Healthy circulatory function helps our bodies effectively distribute nourishing nutrients and fight off illness.
- Our skeletal system benefits from massage since minerals travel more effectively to bones with the improved circulation that massages give us.
- Through the muscular release that feels so therapeutic to us, massage relieves pain and swelling in the body.
- It prevents fibrous buildup in connective tissue, helping us maintain maximal joint mobility and ease of motion.
- Since it exfoliates the epidermis, massage also gives us healthier, more supple skin.
- When we allow these various systems to relax, we also tend to get more restorative rest.
Many of these benefits can be compounded when valuable cannabinoids are brought into the equation. In any topical though, hemp extract needs a good vehicle to maximize its benefit to the body.
What kind of oil is best to use in a CBD massage oil?
This question seems trivial, but it impacts the effect of any massage oil. For effective massage therapy, you have to choose effective oil as well. Lotions, for example, absorb too quickly. While decent for massage, fractionated coconut oil comes from coconuts, which some people react allergically to. Almond oil and walnut oil, although nourishing for our skin, present similar problems.
After some deliberation, we chose a combo of Jojoba oil and Grapeseed oil for our CBD Massage Oil. Firstly, they both have good “glide”, a term which massage therapists use when referring to the friction that an oil provides.
In the article 13 Reasons Why You Should Be Using Jojoba Oil Every Day, we learn why Jojoba oil glides so well. The author explains,
“[…] jojoba ‘oil’ is actually a wax ester with remarkably similar properties to our skin’s own sebum. This means the ‘oil’ is able to penetrate deeply, reaching below the top layer of skin for maximum nourishment.”
This penetrating power makes Jojoba oil ideal for nourishment and deep release for exhausted nerve endings that are constantly firing due to various stressors. Even more importantly, it helps compounds like CBD, CBG, CBC, etc. reach deeper tissues. As an added perk, Jojoba oil doesn’t have the tendency to stain fabrics the way that other oils do.
Grapeseed oil doesn’t have as many noticeable benefits as Jojoba oil, but we included it because of its moisturizing benefits. Not only does it moisturize, but it actually promotes moisture retention in skin tissues as well. It contains a large concentration of the antioxidant Vitamin E as well, far exceeding the Vitamin E content of olive oil.
Both Jojoba and Grapeseed oils have antimicrobial properties as well as hypoallergenic properties.
A winning combination
Combining these two oils with 4 Corners Cannabis’ top notch hemp extract creates the perfect medley of relief. If you’ve enjoyed our other topicals, we encourage you to give this one a try too. It helps prime the body for activity and is also a great way to sooth the body after physical exertion. Whether you’re about to go to that biweekly yoga class, returning from a vigorous hike, our massage oil is a great tool to implement.
